It is with a very heavy heart that I report that the body of Dan Zamlen has been found.
At 11:46 a.m, the body of Dan Zamlen was pulled from the Mississippi River near the Ford Motor Co. power plant in St. Paul. The Ford plant is 1.2 miles down river from the area where Zamlen went missing on April 5.
A worker at the Ford plant found the body while cleaning the grates near that water intake filters that catch debris from the river.
Clothing and a wallet found on the body, as well as a positive identification by Dan's parents, Dale and Sally Zamlen, confirmed that it was Dan. The 27-day search is over--the search for answers still underway.
The body was taken to the Ramsey County coroner's office where an autopsy will be performed to determine the official cause of death. It is expected to be announced in four or five days. At this point, police say they have no reason to suspect foul play. Panos said, 'he believes Zamlen fell down the bluff and into the river.' (Source: Star Tribune, 05/02/09). St. Paul police are waiting to determine how to move forward with the case until after they have received the results of the autopsy.
A funeral for Dan Zamlen is planned for Saturday at at the Resurrection Catholic Church in Eveleth, MN at noon. On Thursday at 4:30 p.m., a memorial Mass will be held in the Chapel of St. Thomas Aquinas in St. Paul.
Please keep Dan and his loved ones in your thoughts at this terrible time.
