10/07/05: Albert Campbell, 22, Potsdam, NY

Albert Campbell, 22, was last seen around 9 p.m. Friday Oct. 7, 2005 at the Cactus Grill Cantina Restaurant in Potsdam, NY. Friends of Campbell told police they had a few drinks at the restaurant then Campbell decided to walk home to his apartment one block away (at 131/2 Market St.) He never made it home. He was reported missing at 12:20 p.m. Saturday. Potsdam police said his friends became concerned when he did not show up for an 11 a.m. meeting the same day.

The Search
About 50 people, including police, were looking for Mr. Campbell on the Clarkson campus, in downtown Potsdam and in the area bordering the Raquette River around the Cactus Grill, which is just a few hundred yards from the river. Members of the St. Lawrence County dive team searched the river in the area and police officers canvassed downtown bars and restaurants with a picture of Mr. Campbell. until they closed early this morning. A ground search was also conducted.

Recovery
On Sunday morning, Albert Campbell's body was recovered from the Raquette River about a mile from the Cactus Grill.

Major: graduate student in engineering
Physical Description: 5 feet 6 inches tall, 250 pounds, brown hair, green eyes, goatee. Was last seen wearing a blue t-shirt with white letters and jeans. Police also said Campbell has a goatee.
Last Seen: 10/07/05 Cactus Grill Cantina (11 Raymond St)
Recovered: 10/09/05, Raquette River
Cause of death: drowning
Manner of death: accident

  1. I am surprised people that are familiar with the victims are not contributing more.This makes at least 2 victims at the address of eleven.I have to wonder if Albert was also a soccer player like the other NY victim-Adam Falcon.

  2. Does anyone know his middle name?If it starts with a D than there is matching initials in a different state where another young man disappeared.

  4. According to this press release from Clarkson University, Albert's middle initial is "C." I have yet to find what it stands for.

  5. I am very happy that they started the Smiley Face Killers series on Oxygen. I know they can only cover so many young men but the story itself got me interested in checking this page when I was just graduating college at SUNY POTSDAM. Of course, I started looking in my local college towns to see if we had similar occurrences many years ago. I found the page for for Adam Falcon (canton, NY) and the, for here, Albert Campbell - Potsdam, NY. Many people do not know this, but these colleges/towns are 11 miles away from each other. The deaths occurred within a year of each other with similar circumstances.

  6. Sha O'marde also died in 2001 on the campus of Potsdam. They also determined it death was also a drowning after he went missing for 24 hours.
