Photos from Mississippi River Blvd

Dan Zamlen has now been missing for over a week. He did not come home for his 19th birthday, and he did not make it home for Easter. I went out walking on Mississippi River Boulevard this weekend because I felt the need to do something. Although the search has been called off, I saw many St. Thomas students and other people like myself who were out hoping to find him. I have posted some photos and a description of the area. (Click on the photos to enlarge.)

------------------------
The area is a quiet upper middle- to upper class residential neighborhood with many large homes. It is within walking distance to St. Thomas University and Byrne residential hall. There were annual parking restrictions in effect on St. Claire Avenue, so we parked two blocks over on Princeton Avenue. You could see St. Thomas University, which was facing the river (to the right of our car, also facing the river).

From our car, we walked across the street to Mississippi River Blvd., and turned right (the direction of the University of Minnesota where Dan had said he was intending to walk).

The path along the river is a concrete sidewalk used for both pedestrians and bicycles. To the right was a patch of grass and then the street. To the left was 5-10 feet of grass (it narrowed in some places) then a gradually sloping hillside with some brush and trees.

There are places along the hill down to the river where the incline is more steep, but it seems that you would have quite a bit of warning before you got to the edge. There was a small scenic overlook with a railing in one area where the hill became more steep.

If you continue following the sidewalk, the residential halls for the University are on the right side ofthe street, followed by a couple of University buildings. Near Byrne Hall, you cross a small stone bridge with a culvert underneath leading to the river.

Continuing down the sidewalk, the path looks much like the photos above, with a gradual slope. Then you come to a small park with a statue. The statue has a round marble area surrounding it and an inscription on the base memorializing the losses of St. Paul and Ramsey County in World War I.

Beyond the statue to the left, there is an outcropping of rock--the only place I could see where it would be possible to fall direcly into the river.

Many people were sitting on the rocks.

If you leave the rock area, turning right, there is a steep embankment with a creek underneath. You could hear the creek. There were paths going down there, but they were steep and would require a good pair of hiking boots.

Looking to the right of the creek, was the street. The photo of the unicycle is looking back in the direction of our car.

We continued down the path, walking to Cretin Avenue before turning around. The whole walk was .6 miles. The last two pictures are on the way back to the car, just before we reached the park.

A reader also sent me more photos of the area that she took over the weekend of 4/19.

  2. One of the things we have to consider is suicide. I know nobody wants to think like that, but if he got into an arguement at the part, and then left, walking to the river, it's possible.

His call to Anna could have been a call for help.

I know the argument was trivial, but when one has been drinking, trivial things can set people off.

Of course suicide isn't the only option. As far as I can tell here are the options. Many people swear that they can rule out things but I think such talk is pointless there is no evidence to suggest the ruling out of any option at this time.

    (In no particuliar order)

    1.) Suicide
2.) Accidental fall into the river
    3.) Abduction
    4.) Ran away

Any of the above is possible and there is just no way to determime what possibility is more likely.

Those people who continue to insist upon the smiley face killers theory are doing a great disservice to this particuliar case.

  5. THE YELLOH GRAFITTI WITH A SMILEY FACE IN THE "O"

I have heard it mentioned that some people believe the smiley face gang are watching websites. There is a new website gone up recently that is watching these cases, they have a map of the locations spots of the drownings/missing persons.
The map is made up of yellow dots.
Maybe the killers have seen the website with the yellow dots map location, maybe they are happay about the map and feel it makes them important and just maybe they wanted to include reference to their map and the "yellow" dots that are making up a picture of a mermaid who "lurs young men to their deaths in water"
by spraying the word YELLOH graffiti at the site of the latest missing person and putting a smiley face in the "O" The killers could be
spelling out a another taunting clue

  9. ANOTHER POSSIBLE CONNECTION THEY MAY USE TO MOVE ONTO OHIO AGAIN next

This fortuitous journey through Ohio University history inspired Hart. With Ohio University's Bicentennial on the horizon, a CD of University-related songs could be a hit. "I thought, 'Gee, we should do this for our birthday,'" Hart says. "Let's celebrate and to celebrate, you have to have music."

Soon after her epiphany, Hart discovered a rich musical history at the University. Mary Elizabeth Lasher Myers, BSJ '42, pointed Hart in the direction of "The Campus is Lonely Tonight," a poignant number written by Helen Townsend Corns - with music by Ernie Mariani - in 1941 about University men leaving campus after the attack on Pearl Harbor. Other noteworthy finds included a University songbook from 1938

Hi :) I'm an agent and I think that's just the way they want it. You can get a lot more information by emailing them directly or talking to someone, but really it's all a bit obscure. The most anyone can say is that Yellow One is an agent of change.

not that i've read. it is my understanding that the GPS only works if the phone is on. around 6 am the phone went straight to voicemail (indicating the battery likely was out). police weren't called until 8 am, and they wouldn't have been able to track the GPS anyways until hours later because of the whole adult law/needing a court order thing. however, i don't know enough about cell phones and technology to know if at this point they can go back and see if there is a GPS record for the hours between 3-6 am. i have no idea if there even is such a possiblity. maybe someone else here will know more about how iphones work. i'm pretty technology-dumb, heh.

  26. re: "Yelloh" graffiti

Please note, there was a great deal of graffiti all around this area. This was the only thing I found remotely resembling a smiley face. Just because it is there, does not mean it is anything of value. Anyone could have written it. It is right out in the open, too, so other people surely would have noticed it if it was a clue. If you look at the photos of the sfkiller graffiti, it does not look alike. But I felt I needed to include it with my photos in order to report a fair assessment of what I found.

I am now rethinking this. I think perhaps this photograph is sidetracking people, and it was a bit premature of me to post it. I have removed it and will send it to the investigators to see if they make anything out of it.

It was exactly like the Anonymous poster had stated - it would be hard to fall without disturbing some of the brush. I don't know what to make of it all. Unless he was on the rocks? But the last scent was picked up in street right?

It seems to me this could have been addressed to God.
And if he had only just phoned his girlfriend and according to this blog

He said he was headed to the University of Minnesota to meet some friends and was talking to friend Anna Chappuis on his cell phone who said she would pick him up. It was 2:30 a.m., and although she does not remember word for word what he said, Chappuis says she remembers hearing, "Oh my God. Help." before the call ended abruptly

He could have hardly expected her to be their as soon as he had phoned her So who was he adressing the WHERE ARE YOU too other than God.?

  40. Curious,

    I had the same reaction.

To slip and fall in the river: you would have to walk 5-10 feet to the edge (I don't know why anyone would do that in the dark), and if you slipped, you would slide or roll down the hill, running into brush and trees on the way down. And at the bottom, there would be a thin riverbank before the water. He most certainly would have been found by the infared or by a search party. Students at St. Thomas have launched a massive search and have been out every day. We saw students walking down the hill looking for Dan.

I am sure that the culvert under the bridge and also the creek bed near the statue would have been thoroughly searched. It is my understanding that dogs were brought out. We also saw people out walking along the opposite bank of the river.

He could have fallen into the river from the rocks, but the Ford lock and dam is a mile or less downstream from there.

After walking through the area, I keep coming back to the conclusion that Dan is just not there.

The mystery is where he is.

  42. I was the anonymous poster at 8:00--
I do not go to UST but I have gotten this info from a very reliable source. There is a lot of stuff the media has wrong, such as when they said that the search was called off. The volunteer team has been working around the clock since he disappeared and in coordination with the police last week. Also, all reports that say he said he was slipping are incorrect.

    ReplyDelete
  43. There is a YELLOW connection

to another as yet missing person
    Brandon Swanson

Brandon had been walking in the early morning of May 14 and have searched the nearby Yellow Medicine River by foot and in boats. “He was on the phone with his parents for one time at 45 minutes, explaining to them he was walking,” Lyon County Sherriff Joel Dahl says. The best the searchers can do is assume Swanson was walking toward Taunton.

And i know the graffiti is now known to have been placed there before Dan went missing but was it there before Brandon went missing ?

Last Seen: 05/13/08 in Canby, MN. His car was found near Taunton, MN.

The killers could stake out places way beofre they actually use them and could have put the graffiti there ready for the next piece of their puzzle game.

Police in St. Paul, MN are calling off the search for Dan Zamlen and are now questioning the validity of Zamlen’s final phone call. According to the young woman who Zamlen was talking with, Zamlen’s last words were, “Oh, my God. Where are you? Help.” Since that call in the early hours of April 5, there has been no sign of Zamlen or his cell phone.

According to the Star Tribune, St. Paul Police spokesman Pete Panos said, “We found nothing to support what she thought she heard on the phone.” Panos said there is no evidence of foul play. So without any new leads, police are ending the search for the 19-year-old college freshman. His parents are not giving up and are refusing to return to their home in Eveleth until they find Dan.

MYSELF ithough it must be a drug connection.!!!

the Pejuhutazizi Mission. This Indian name means Yellow Medicine, the name of the bitter root of the Moonseed plant used by the Indians for medicinal purposes.
i wonder is it a potenet drug ? make you go uncoscious is it tracable etcetc?

Prior to 1850, Yellow Medicine, one of the historically important counties of Minnesota, was part of Redwood County and under federal jurisdiction as Indian territory. In 1852, Dr. Thomas Williamson, a medical missionary of the Presbyterian Church, established the Pejuhutazizi Mission. This Indian name means Yellow Medicine, the name of the bitter root of the Moonseed plant used by the Indians for medicinal purposes. In 1854, Rev. Stephen R. Riggs, a Congregationalist, established the Hazel Creek Mission.

    http://www.britannica.com/EBchecked/topic/391436/moonseed
    Main

any of three species of woody vines constituting the genus Menispermum of the family Menispermaceae (order Ranunculales). They occur in East Asia, eastern North America, and Mexico. The North American species, Canada moonseed, or yellow parilla (M. canadense), with lobed leaves and greenish-white flowers, bears black, grapelike fruit with crescent-shaped seeds. M. dauricum, from East Asia, and M. mexicanum, from Mexico, have similar properties. In particular, the seeds of all these species may cause a curare-like poisoning; one of the ingredients in curare comes from another member of Menispermaceae (Chondrodendron tomentosum).

  59. wiki listing on moonseed

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Menispermum

Menispermum (moonseed) is a small genus of deciduous climbing woody vines in the moonseed family (Menispermaceae). Plants in this genus have small dioecious flowers, and clusters of small grape-like drupes.[1] The name, moonseed , comes from the shape of the seed, which resembles a crescent moon. The word Menispermum is derived from the Greek words mene, meaning moon, and sperma meaning seed. The name is also applied to some other species in related genera (Cocculus).

There are only three species in the genus Menispermum. They are:

    * Menispermum canadense (Canadian moonseed) - northeastern North America
    * Menispermum dauricum (Asian moonseed) - northeastern Asia
    * Menispermum mexicanum (Mexican moonseed) - Mexico

    Uses

All parts of these plants are known to be poisonous. Children have been killed from eating the fruits.[2]

Asian Moonseed has been used to treat skin disorders, rheumatism,[3] and cervical cancer.[4] Canadian Moonseed has been used in herbal medicine as a tonic, laxative, dermatological aid, venereal aid, and diuretic.[5] Yellow Medicine County in Minnesota is named after one of this plant's common names.

Plants of this species are sometimes grown as ornamentals in gardens. Gardeners can propagate this plant from the division of runners or by seed.

  66. Woah. I haven't been on this site in a while.... lots of updates.

yellow-1.org is a sister site OR (more likely) a rival / copy cat to neurocam.com.

there used to be a really weird video on the website.

Now the main page only consists of their symbol. After they changed their site a while back ago, it used to say:

Samuel: Did they at least follow up?
Agent9: You can say they've been dealing with some issues.
Agent9: It was a huge amount of data.
Samuel: So what does that mean anyway?
Agent9: You just want me to tell you what you're thinking.
    Samuel: Well if it's true..
Agent9: It's just change, Sam, get used to it.
Agent9: Anyway, Mr. Holding expects your report no later than Tuesday.
Agent9: Maybe you'll find your place here after all.

It still says all this (encrypted?) if you view the web page's source.

I have NO idea what yellow-1.org is. I've been researching them for months.

Neurocam is a supposed secret art society that sprung out of Melbourne. Very. Weird. Stuff. Their archives have only recently been hidden to the public - member will tell you thought that real archives online never existed.

I don't know if it connects... they're just weird on their own.

  67. Subject: Cullen
I am still a little numb. We almost lost Cullen early Sunday morning. It
all started Saturday night. He and Ryan Larson went off to LaCrosse to hit
the bars with Jay Hoffland. Cullen drove and they planned to spend the
night with Jay. At 1:30 they were all at John's Bar. And at bar time
Cullen was no where to be seen. Ryan and Jay were up until 5:30 trying to
find him. Cullen resurfaced at 7:00 AM at the emergency room of Gundersen
Lutheran. He remembers being in John's Bar. And the next thing he
remembers is being in the water. We are talking the Mississippi River!!
He fought his way out of the river and collapsed on the rocks. He probably
laid there for several hours. No jacket or shoes, which he probably lost
in the river. He awoke to the sounds of cars. He ran towards the noise.
Then he saw a sign for Gundersen Lutheran and ran in his socks to the
emergency room. They took very good care of Cullen. He volunteered to
give a blood and urine sample. He felt he had nothing to hide. So on
Sunday I am thinking he had had way too much to drink and I was upset for
several reasons. Well, the blood alcohol came back Monday. Cullen was not
drunk. His blood alcohol was .04. Yet Cullen can not recall anything from
1:30 AM until waking up in the river. What did someone put in Cullen's
drink? The urinalysis has not come back yet. Cullen has scrapes and
bruises and he is very sore. I don't think he realizes that he almost
died. And I don't think he realizes that someone almost killed him!
Cullen and Tom will be meeting with the LaCrosse police this PM. Cullen
some how managed to get out of the river. And I think the fact that he was
not drunk was a factor. Suddenly I am asking myself "What was the last bar
that some of the other young man were in before they drowned in the river?"
I am taking Cullen to the doctor today. He may have become infected with
some kind of bacteria. At night I just lay in bed and see him laying on
the rocks. Wet. I guess we are very lucky that he is alive. And yet I am
so angry that there is a person out there who almost killed my son. Do you
think they will ever find this person? I do know that John's Bar is under
surveillance. Just what that means I am not sure. Maybe they do a drive
by every other hour! Hopefully Cullen will feel better tomorrow. I think
I am still in shock. How could this have happened? Again, we are very,
    very LUCKY!!

La Crosse police continue to look into how a 21-year-old Viroqua man ended up in the Mississippi River.

Cullen Fortney, who is a UW-Madison student, says he found himself in the river early Sunday morning after a night of drinking in downtown La Crosse with friends. Fortney has no recollection on how he got there.

Fortney's friends last saw him around 1:30 Sunday morning. The next time he appeared was on security footage from a parking lot at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center. That was five-and-a-half hours later.

He told hospital staff he pulled himself out of the river nearby, after being in for 15-minutes or so. But, he said he didn't remember how or when he got into the water.

Fortney still had his wallet and keys, but was missing his shoes and cell phone.

Police may now be investigating a missing vehicle along with the case. One of Fortney's friends told police he parked his pickup truck downtown before going to the bars Saturday night.

That friend turned up at Gundersen Lutheran on Sunday morning, as well. He was passed out in the lobby. He told police he doesn't know how he got there and his truck has disappeared.

In the past seven years, seven college-aged students have drowned in the Mississippi River after drinking in downtown La Crosse.

  70. Also, thats an interesting point you made on the moon seed - Angel Trumpet's, also night time bloomers and also of the Datura species, are known to cause massive disorientation and hallucinations. Erowid has some postings of recreational users who claim to have blacked out for a period of up to three days. Though I don't know how discretely one can dose it out to an unsuspecting victim and if it would appear in a post mortem toxicology ? ? ? ? ? ?

  73. Okay I found a blog where people actually joined Neurocam. It's just a gaming site - or a type ARG even though they claim not to be that. They are not into anything illegal - at least they claim they are not and do not ask any of the participants to engage in illegal activities. But who knows for sure since anything is possible.

Okay, last post about that. I'll try not to stray off topic again.

    ReplyDelete
  74. Curious, I know you don't consider yellow-1.org relevant here but I just have to know how they get to use .org. Do you or anyone else entertain any theories? I didn't go into the forums but Boyinthemachine did. If they are non profit, then what about them makes them able to afford to exist? I realize we got waay off topic with yelloh, yellow, and moonseeds. There were some funny posts about that on GLP about being lead to a Goatman site with pictures of a big dude in a sweaty yellow T. The sweat formed a crude smiley face. I laughed uncontrollably for 5 minutes. I needed it.

  77. Hi Anon 9:56 :)

I did some research and that Yellow-1.org site was a forum created for the gamers/participants connected to Neurocam.com. Basically new recruits to the games would communicate with senior members (which they call Operatives) with any questions they would have about the game, assignments, etc. It was started by one of the senior members. That yellow-1.org site is closed now and it was moved to another site. The .org is just a domain name. Anyone can register for a .org domain address - there are no requirements for registration. Here is a link describing this:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/.org

In any case, the Yellow-1.com and Neurocam.com are nothing more than harmless alternate reality gaming. It was apparently started by some Artist and it is based out of Australia. It gained popularity and has now branched out internationally - mainly due to the obscurity and mystery of the site. The organization also posted a huge billboard somewhere in Australia that generated tons of interest. An article written about the mystery of the "organization" also spurred huge interest and caused more people to join. Here is the blog I found where members discuss the registration process and the various "assignments" they have to perform in the game:

    http://forums.unfiction.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=8372&start=105

Anyway, I hope this helps. :) Again, it's harmless and the sites have nothing to do with any disappearances.

    ReplyDelete
  78. To Anon 10:20:

That is all part of the game/creative process. It's nothing more than that. Gamers love it because it's very different from all other ARG's. Read the comments below the video and the heading which is:

  81. ARG's like RPG's are harmless save for the people who can't distinguish reality from fantasy.

(This means that a lot of people into the sfk theory should stay away from such! LOL -j.k.)

Seriously though, let's stop the moonseed, yelloh, and yellow-1.org nonsense. None of it has anything to do with Dan Zamlen's disappearance.

  87. I have made connections to yellow medicine river and the graffiti you found Yelloh- yelloh is also an abreviation seemingly used for yellow medicine county.
Yellow medicine is the english verson of the maerican indian name for moonseed, a medicine /poison, that can have the effect of paraylising someone yet keeping them flexible, their eyes open and them being fully aware yet unableto move themselves.

see above for actual medical links on the moonseed affects
Having found out all this i decided to persue it more, so
I did a yahoo search with the words "moonseed rape drug"

    i got this result

    http://search.yahoo.com/search;_ylt=A0oGkyPgQORJzWQAn5FXNyoA?p=moonseed++rape+drug&y=Search&fr=moz2&fr2=sb-top

Why is it the top result? i see no mention of it on that site and that site is strange- could it be a cover- a coded covert group? using terminology that fits two meanings?

i looked through that page and it has an article on floppy kid syndrome- that sounds just like the effects of the moonseed as described in the medical affects i posted on here in the comments.
I had an erry feeling, something did not feel quite right about that site.

Then i looked at the website owners biography story page and i was well creeped out.

I didnt have images enabled so i clicked on one to go to another page.

  89. moonseed used on poisonous arrows
Moonseed developed for use in surgery as a muscle relaxant

Despite the extensive variation displayed by most morphological traits, the main feature historically used to define the family is the curved seed found in many of the genera, hence the common name "moonseed" family. Concomitant with the curving of the seed is the curving of the embryo. Moreover, the endocarp is variously ornamented and provides important taxonomic characters for distinguishing between and within genera.

Several members of the family are known for their medicinal and toxic components. Among these, the best known is curare, the South American dart and arrow poison, traditionally used by the rainforest people for hunting.

Knowledge of that use led to the synthesis of D-tubocurarine, a muscle relaxant utilized in surgical procedures in Western medicine until the early 1980s and for which the sole source was Chondrodendron tomentosum Ruiz and Pav. (Sneader, 1985 ; Phillips, 1991 ).

Menispermaceae are also economically important as hosts of the larvae of fruit-piercing moths, which as adults are pests for a range of commercial fruits and cause considerable loss of crops in Australia and in most of the Old World tropics (Fay, 1996 ).

Several other uses are reported for a number of Menispermaceae species (see Phillips, 1991 and citations therein for reports of those uses in Asia and in Africa).

Does anyone know what I am talking about? In the video I am referring to you can see the top of a man's head and he looks like he has the beginnings of a bald spot indicating that he was older than most people in that bar but followed Brian back inas he was last seen.

The Zamlens are supporting a bill from GOP House Minority Leader Marty Seifert to revamp Minnesota's missing persons laws for young adults and adults who disappear under suspicious or dangerous circumstances.

"If that law had been in place on Sunday morning, there would have been police down there, there would have been dogs down there, there would have been you know, somebody in communication with the phone company," Sally Zamlen said.

She added: "We would have had a 4-day head start on everything we're doing now."

Seifert's bill would require authorities to take and investigate missing persons reports on adults, no matter how little time they've been missing and even if the disappearance may have been intentional.

Some law enforcement agencies now wait 24 or 48 hours to look into such cases, since adults can choose to go away without telling others. But the practice can cost precious time.

Seifert's bill is named for Brandon Swanson, a 19-year-old who disappeared last May after running his car off the road in rural western Minnesota. Seifert said Swanson was on foot and speaking on a cell phone with his father when he disappeared.

"It was 2 in the morning, he was talking to his dad, taking the shortcut through the meadow, he was jumping fences and going through rough terrain. And one of his last statements was `Oh shoot, water,' or something on that order. That is why we feel the Yellow Medicine River is probably what happened. Nobody knows for sure," said Seifert, R-Marshall.

Seifert said law enforcement agencies in the area had uneven approaches to Swanson's case.

Under his bill, if a missing person is determined to be "endangered" -- meaning he or she was abducted or disappeared in a dangerous situation or for more than 30 days -- the state Bureau of Criminal Apprehension and other resources would come in.

Young adults could become the subject of such a search for even more reasons, including need for medical attention or medication, mental impairment, past threats of violence or going lost in the wilderness. The bill also encourages authorities to use subpoenas or search warrants if necessary to locate someone by pinging a cell phone or other electronic devices.

The House Finance Committee approved the bill, sending it to the full House.

Dale Zamlen said help searching for his son came quickly from organizations like the Jon Francis Foundation and the Jacob Wetterling Foundation, set up to help families find missing loved ones. He said the laws need to catch up.

"Law enforcement did as well as they could," he said. "Their hands are tied."

"And one of his last statements was `Oh shoot, water,' or something on that order. That is why we feel the Yellow Medicine River is probably what happened. Nobody knows for sure," said Seifert, R-Marshall."

So Brandon mentioned water , first iv'e heard of that.

I read in one of the posts that there are only two months of the year with no killings - July & August. Most of the killings are done on or near a quarter moon and there's three more of those before July. Killer(s) may strike again before October.

It appears that most of the killings done on quarter moon or within 1 day of it but some have been 2 days before or after a quarter moon. But if a person is last seen 2 days before a quarter moon it doesn't mean they are killed that day. Since most are out drinking it is likely they are killed after midnight which would put the actual killing within a day of quarter moon.

There is also a pattern in when they decide to make their move..........the moon. They never strike when it is a full moon....usually only when it is a quarter moon. That way they have a better chance of not being seen(?). I'm only speculating as to why they wouldn't strike on a full moon. And they are only commiting these crimes during Nov - May.....but there are a couple that have been done in June and I think two in July. But that still rules out Aug-Oct and that's when there are more people out and about and a higher chance of being seen.

any of three species of woody vines constituting the genus Menispermum of the family Menispermaceae (order Ranunculales).

The Yellowstone River (and the park named for it) derives from the Siouan word mitsiadazi. Similarly, Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota, is the English translation of the name of a yellow plant also called moonseed (Menispermum canadense) that grows in that area. Yellowknife, the capital of the Northwest Territories, is the English translation of a Dene (Athabascan) name for the native people who lived there and carried knives made of a yellowish native copper they mined in the north.

Professor Gilbertson has been working on his 'I-94 Serial Killer' theory prior to his involvement with the two detectives on the sfkillers theory.

Gilbertson's theory includes the strange drowning deaths of college-aged men which he believes are clustered around I-94.

Local law enforcement were not convinced and Gilbertson has since teamed up with Gannon & Duarte w/ their sfkiller theory.

With regards to Lacross, the supposed place where it all began,

Check out the following clips. There are many natives who believe there is a serial killer on the loose, however there are just as many native disbelievers as well.

  119. There is another
    yellow yelloh connection also

    THE COLOR YELLOW CONNECTION

The classic Smiley arrived in the early 1970s. Within a perfect circle, there is the simplest, most childlike depiction of a happy face: two vertical, oval eyes and a large, upturned semi-circular mouth. The choice of yellow as a background colour was inspired: it's the colour of spring, the sun, a radiant, unclouded happiness.

    ALSO ANOTHER DRUG CONNECTION

Tim Simenon has used the Smiley repeatedly: in the videos for the summer '88 hit Don't Make Me Wait (and for last year's Butterfingers). In the previous month, Danny Rampling had used the Smiley in a flyer for his club Shoom. He'd got the idea from seeing the designer Barnzley at the Wag Club in a shirt covered "in a lot of smiley faces". Embedded into the second "o" in Shoom, the symbol took a few weeks to catch on, but when it did, it swept the country as the logo of acid fashion.

As acid house became acieed that year, the Smiley flip-flopped from dream symbol to harbinger of wickedness. Just as the early days of acid were beatific, so the media's initial response to this new youth cult was positive. This changed in the autumn as "smiley culture" was associated with headlines like "Evil Of Ecstasy" and "Shoot These Drug Barons", and the fad quickly subsided.

This negative association continued into the early 1990s. Mutations of the symbol were used by Nirvana (crossed-out eyes, drooling mouth) on their famous "Corporate Rock Whores" T-shirt, as well as in the 1991 Fangoria comic Evil Ernie (angry eyes, mouth with bared teeth).

Evil Ernie is a fictional character, an undead, psychotic killer with his own series, published by Chaos! Comics and Devil's Due Publishing. Originally, Evil Ernie was part of Eternity Comics. He made his debut in December 1991.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Evil_Ernie

Evil Ernie hereafter, along with his partner 'Smiley' (A psychotic smiley badge, which was once his pet rat) set about to cause 'Megadeath', which involved setting all of the USA's nuclear plethora on the rest of the world, so the rest of the world fires on itself (a sort of domino effect). Ernie sets to accomplish this by creating an army of zombies known as 'Dead onez'. Various adventures ensue, including a trip back to his past to confront his parents about their ill treatment of him, and a trip to hell to rebuke Pagan (the court jester of hell) for having Lady Death cast out into the void by Satan.

The culmination of Ernie's efforts amount to him causing Megadeath by causing the rest of the world to fire on itself with nuclear warheads from other various countries. Elsewhere the world has been earlier obliterated by nuclear strikes from various countries. Evil Ernie ends his life in a duel with Dr. Price, and in the last moment before the missiles hit, Ernie overpowers Price and turns him into a Dead One, exclaiming: Do you see it now? To which Price replies I see it, it's beau- Hereafter, both are dead. The very last scene is one of a mushroom cloud behind the survivors, bearing a facade of Ernie's face, grinning maniacally.

    Desmond Clark

“Accidental drowning” is how authorities are classifying a Montana teen’s death. Desmond Clark left a party near Poplar, Montana on April 10th. He got into an argument with someone at the party and walked into the woods. Attempts to bring the 17-year-old back were unsuccessful. Searchers started looking for him on Easter evening. His body was recovered in the backwaters of the Missouri River. The location is less than a mile from the party where Desmond was last seen. According to the Great Falls Tribune, authorities say there are no reports of trauma or foul play and that Desmond had been drinking alcohol at the party. Click here to read more about Desmond’s death.

Desmond was a junior at a high school in nearby Wolf Point, MT. He was a guard on the basketball team. They’d had a successful season and made local headlines recently for winning the conference tournament.

I really do see your point, and it really is a good theory that clues are being left. I'm not trying to argue with you, only trying to play devil's advocate.

My issue is that it is a circular theory--each piece depends on something else, so it at looks like a house of cards.

First, all of it hinges on the fact that the SFK theory is correct and that this graffiti is the mark of the killer(s). If wrong, we potentially eliminate other suspects. But if we are right and this graffiti is really the mark of the killer....why isn't it left at every scene? Out of 151 cases, looked at by the investigators, only 35 are thought to be linked and of those, graffiti was NOT found at every scene.

The problem is, if this killer is so methodical and intelligent to toy with police by leaving graffiti, I would think he would leave it at every scene. From my reading, serial killers usually stick to the same M.O.

But I will grant that I'm no expert and could be wrong. But how do you explain that the victims that don't have a connection to "moon?" There are also Half Moon Lakes and Bays to choose from all over the Midwest (e.g., Polk, WI and Riverdale, MI). If the killer was fixated on "Half Moon," I would expect to see more victims found in other Half Moon Lakes.

My other issue is with the moonseed. Nothing has ever come back on a toxicology report to suggest any of these men were drugged. Is moonseed something that would not show up in toxicology? Perhaps it is not routinely looked for or wouldn't show up. That would change things. But I don't think we can call moonseed a possibility until we know for sure.

All I'm saying is that while I wouldn't rule it out, I think it's too early to tell if there's a connection, so I wouldn't call it a clue just yet.

    Hi,
Well that is just what i have been led to do, join certain names of rivers etc
to cases that have no graffiti
but the ALL THE graffiti links to those places as in the case of both Jesse Miller and Brandon Swanson which dont have any but were links to the graffiti you found. with the mispelt YELLOH
Remeber i find and google entry for a local government paper of some kind with YELLOH COUNTY ON IT.

its like that wierd indian name graffiti sawannana or wotever it was-
it lead to a place of another missing or drowning., and that was very direct, somthings like what i found you need to research to see how they can be connected.

Just because there is not a smiley in a place of a drowning or missing person in one case doesn't mean that there are not clues there in that place, clues in names and their origin meaning, river names etc the street names the significance of the dates etcetc even the names of previous victims could be a link that leads to other cases were there may be a graffiti clue, smiley or not .

Anyhow this is the only way to SEE IF THERE IS A REAL PATTERN OTHER THAN THE BARE CIRCUMSTANCES OF EACH INDIVIDUAL CASE
AND IT COULD BE IMPORTANT IN ENTRAPMENT OR EVEN LEAD TO THE KILLER BY HIS CHOICE MEANS OF CODES SO TO SPEAK.

    HI,
The basis of the theoryis we are dealing with groups, cells assigned different tasks by a central command.
They may not all want or have to place graffiti but are assigned a certain place and time for reasons to do with other places by their commanders.

That is the theory its a gang with a sructure and their are architecs to the overall pattern and their are hunters and goafers doing what they are told to do and when and where for the reward of the hunt.
The chief architect has his complex pattern and design in mind though.

that is my theory of what is going on with these killers and how they are operating under a carefully thought out leadership plan, based upon the sfkillers gandg theory.

They may be ignorant of any other real culture and especially American history -except i suppose hip hop type stuff that is associated with sterotypical graffiti wannabees etc.

  141. ok on circular argument.......

lets look at what the killers might do when arranging events.

    At a meeting
one group is told go out and get a profile of possible prey /victim in your area.
The group leader of a cell of the sf killers gang is holding a meeting.

3 of you attend college so bring me back any one you want to put up on the chalk board for consideration, lets see what you all come up with then we will decide how to undertake the hunt.

so they go out to their college look at their fellows
look at newbies and pick five possible candidiates.

they report back at the next meeting-

meanwhile their leader is in contact with another leader in another state.
    they have a conversation.

we got a candidate already picked we plan such and such a date

The other leader in other state-

"as i told you we just had a meeting and we can fit ours in before or after yours, what you want , what do you think?"

"well im planning a field this time i have two areas in mind one is named----------
    the other ----------
    and their both near--------

so can you leave me a carling card with this on it **********
    at your kill site in----------?

    "Will do"

"ok good, that will leave so many months before probable recovery of both -"

Oh and by the way i also arranged my new place of kill to match the 1998 kill in
    **********

"ok let's get started then i'm sending my crew out thursday at 11pm to catch our man."

That is not circular thinking its a concise well thought out conspiracy and plan to kill.

but the hypothosis seems to connect those particular group of drownings together

and other hypothosis such as my own -yellow river yelloh and moonseed moon lake
seems to connect other drownings together.

it can be certain names of lakes rivers , counties, plants and street/ road names and themes of religious holdays dates- moon cyles and classic poems have been around far longer than graffiti and are unchagable

Significance: Detective Kevin Gannon told me that he found the word Sinsinawa spray painted in red near the site of an early drowning.

Matt Kruziki disappeared on December 23, 2005.

He was last seen at “The River Queen Lounge” in East Dubuque, IL. The address of the strip club is 31 Sinsinawa Avenue. The East Dubuque Police Department is at 193 Sinsinawa Avenue. Matt was recovered in the Mississippi River.

    MIKE THE DETECTIVE SAID
Sinsinawa is also an Ojibwe word that means “to lay somebody down”. This usually refers to putting someone in a grave.

    JASON STRONGLY DISAGREED
Detective Mike: Unless you can provide a source to verify such, then please realize it’s just a rumour and hearsay, and most likely WRONG.
THEN SOMETHING ABOUT IT COULD MEAN SOMETHING SEXUAL
    WHY SAID THAT?

    DETECTIVE MIKE ANSWERED

Jason, I’m glad you asked that because there is alot of bad rumors out there. I happen to be Ojibwe and here is the translation:

    ziingishin= lie down
    awiya= somebody

For those that don’t understand the Ojibwe language, it is a spoken language, not written. So, it is all phonetic. The z ans s sounds are the same in Ojibwe. Usually when you see an Ojibwe word written in English phoneticly, it has evolved to be written so it is more easily read by an English speaking person.

This is exactly where the word Chippewa came from. It is an English corruption of the word Ojibwe (jib wa). It’s easier for an English person to say “Chipp-ewa”.

  148. Drugs that interfere with nerve function, such as curare, can also cause paralysis. Many causes of this are varied, and could also be unknown.

    Anesthesia

Isolated attempts to use curare during anesthesia dates back to 1912 by Arthur Lawen of Leipzig.[14] But curare came to anesthesia via psychiatry (electroplexy). In 1939 Abram Elting Bennett used it to modify metrazol induced convulsive therapy.[15] Muscle relaxants are used in modern anesthesia for many reasons, such as providing optimal operating conditions and facilitating intubation of the trachea. Before muscle relaxants, anesthesiologists needed to use larger doses of the anesthetic agent, such as ether, chloroform or cyclopropane to achieve these aims. Such deep anesthesia risked killing patients that were elderly or had heart conditions. The source of curare in the Amazon was first researched by Richard Evans Schultes in 1941. Since the 1930s, it was being used in hospitals as a muscle relaxant. He discovered that different types of curare called for as many as 15 ingredients, and in time helped to identify more than 70 species that produced the drug [1].

On January 23, 1942, Dr. Harold Griffith and Dr. Enid Johnson gave a synthetic preparation of curare (Intracostin/ Intocostrin) to a patient undergoing an appendectomy (to supplement conventional anesthesia). Curare (d-tubocurarine) is no longer used for anesthesia during surgery as better drugs are now available. When used with halothane d-tubocurarine can cause profound fall in blood pressure in some patients as both the drugs are ganglion blockers. [16]. However, it is safer to use d-tubocurarine with ether.

In 1954, a sensational article was published by Beecher and Todd suggesting that the use of muscle relaxants (drugs similar to curare) increased death due to anesthesia nearly six fold.[17]. This has been completely disproved.

Modern anesthetists have at their disposal a variety of muscle relaxants for use in anesthesia. The ability to produce muscle relaxation independently from anesthesia has permitted anesthesiologists to adjust the two effects separately as needed to ensure that their patients are safely unconscious and sufficiently relaxed to permit surgery. The use of neuromuscular blocking drugs carries with it a very small risk of anaesthesia awareness.

    http://en.diagnosispro.com/differential_diagnosis-for/general-paralysis-paresis/39620-154.html

    Paralysis
    Definition
Paralysis is defined as complete loss of strength in an affected limb or muscle group.
    Description
The chain of nerve cells that runs from the brain through the spinal cord out to the muscle is called the motor pathway. Normal muscle function requires intact connections all along this motor pathway. Damage at any point reduces the brain's ability to control the muscle's movements. This reduced efficiency causes weakness, also called paresis. Complete loss of communication prevents any willed movement at all. This lack of control is called paralysis. Certain inherited abnormalities in muscle cause periodic paralysis, in which the weakness comes and goes.
The line between weakness and paralysis is not absolute. A condition causing weakness may progress to paralysis. On the other hand, strength may be restored to a paralyzed limb. Nerve regeneration or regrowth is one way in which strength can return to a paralyzed muscle. Paralysis almost always causes a change in muscle tone. Paralyzed muscle may be flaccid, flabby, and without appreciable tone, or it may be spastic, tight, and with abnormally high tone that increases when the muscle is moved.
Paralysis may affect an individual muscle, but it usually affects an entire body region. The distribution of weakness is an important clue to the location of the nerve damage that is causing the paralysis. Words describing the distribution of paralysis use the suffix "-plegia," from the Greek word for "stroke." The types of paralysis are classified by region:

    * monoplegia, affecting only one limb
    * diplegia, affecting the same body region on both sides of the body (both arms, for example, or both sides of the face)
    * hemiplegia, affecting one side of the body
    * paraplegia, affecting both legs and the trunk
    * quadriplegia, affecting all four limbs and the trunk

    Causes and symptoms
    Causes
The nerve damage that causes paralysis may be in the brain or spinal cord (the central nervous system) or it may be in the nerves outside the spinal cord (the peripheral nervous system). The most common causes of damage to the brain are:

    * stroke
    * tumor
    * trauma (caused by a fall or a blow)
    * Multiple sclerosis (a disease that destroys the protective sheath covering nerve cells)
    * cerebral palsy (a condition caused by a defect or injury to the brain that occurs at or shortly after birth)
    * metabolic disorder (a disorder that interferes with the body's ability to maintain itself)

Damage to the spinal cord is most often caused by trauma, such as a fall or a car crash. Other conditions that may damage nerves within or immediately adjacent to the spine include:

    * tumor
    * herniated disk (also called a ruptured or slipped disk)
    * spondylosis (a disease that causes stiffness in the joints of the spine)
    * rheumatoid arthritis of the spine
    * neurodegenerative disease (a disease that damages nerve cells)
    * multiple sclerosis

Damage to peripheral nerves may be caused by:

    * trauma
    * compression or entrapment (such as carpal tunnel syndrome)
    * Guillain-Barré syndrome (a disease of the nerves that sometimes follows fever caused by a viral infection or immunization)
    * chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyradiculoneuropathy (CIDP) (a condition that causes pain and swelling in the protective sheath covering nerve cells)
    * radiation
    * inherited demyelinating disease (a condition that destroys the protective sheath around the nerve cell)
    * toxins or poisons

    Symptoms
The distribution of paralysis offers important clues to the site of nerve damage. Hemiplegia is almost always caused by brain damage on the side opposite the paralysis, often from a stroke. Paraplegia occurs after injury to the lower spinal cord, and quadriplegia occurs after damage to the upper spinal cord at the level of the shoulders or higher (the nerves controlling the arms leave the spine at that level). Diplegia usually indicates brain damage, most often from cerebral palsy. Monoplegia may be caused by isolated damage to either the central or the peripheral nervous system. Weakness or paralysis that occurs only in the arms and legs may indicate demyelinating disease. Fluctuating symptoms in different parts of the body may be caused by multiple sclerosis.
Sudden paralysis is most often caused by injury or stroke. Spreading paralysis may indicate degenerative disease, inflammatory disease such as Guillain-Barré syndrome or CIDP, metabolic disorders, or inherited demyelinating disease.
Other symptoms often accompany paralysis from any cause. These symptoms may include numbness and tingling, pain, changes in vision, difficulties with speech, or problems with balance. Spinal cord injury often causes loss of function in the bladder, bowel, and sexual organs. High spinal cord injuries may cause difficulties in breathing.

  153. It is hard to make any assertion on the toxicology of the victims with these cases - who knows what kind of tests are being performed. Bill Szostak has said that the police determined the cause of death post autopsy findings but pre toxicology findings, so in that particular case it can be assumed the police were not waiting for an in depth report and more than likely have not tested for a wide array of substances.

In any case, i doubt that the toxicology tests that have been performed on the victims have ALL come out completely drug free - THAT would be kinda suspicious.. (college = weed in every other dorm)

I'm sorry, my wording was weird...I meant that there was no track back to sfkillersDOTCOM (OBVIOUSLY the article itself was about the killers)

And in regards to the HSK(Initiative), which i worded even weirder, I only meant to point out that since the FBI is actively seeking out files of truck driver routes, MAYBE, and only maybe, might some light be shed in regards to whether or not similarities exist between the HSK and SFK - only because the SFK was once called the i90/i94 killer and some people maintain that a truck may be the mode of transportation. In any case, AND MORE IMPORTANTLY, the HSK will definately shed some psychology towards solving the SFK. (Since both cases, in my my opinion, can only be solved with fresher, twenty first century approaches of investigation since both don't follow previous known understandings of serial killer operation) Now with such a large, massive plan of action being sought for the highway dumped female victims, there is now a chance the FBI will take on a new approach toward the unsolved cases of water dumped male victims. Slim chance, I know, I'm saying it to, but ya never know what the FBI is actually working on.

I kinda think this post made no sense either.. I think I'm gonna take a break from the posts for a few days. I'm going a little bit cray cray.

  155. ANOTHER TRAGEDY IN PORTLAND
    THIS MUST END

    Rafael Velichko

Investigation continues in Columbia Gorge death of MHCC student

    Christina Hammett
    The Advocate

As detectives examine the evidence behind the recent death of Mt. Hood Community College student Rafael Velichko, his former instructors and friends recount their memories and attempt to piece together the puzzle of what may have occurred.

An avid jazz pianist, Velichko played piano at his church as part of a youth group band. Sulamita Slavic Evangelical Church in Fairview posted a notice of Velichko’s death on their website Feb. 13, a day after the young man’s body was found in the Columbia River Gorge. The notice said, “This week we had a tragic loss in our church family. We have lost a friend, a brother, and a talented person. Rafael Velichko is no longer with us.” As of press time, members of the church could not be reached for further comment.

The part-time student’s former instructors, biology instructor Lee Mitchell and jazz band director Susie Jones, recall the student in different ways.

Jones, who had Velichko in class this quarter said, “He was a talented pianist and had a love of jazz. He entered my class because he wanted to learn more about music and jazz as a whole.”

Mitchell, who Velichko took multiple biology courses with, said, “He picked up some material and some stuff he just didn’t get at all. He struggled with some assignments and things outside of class. I think there were other things that might have been taking him away from his studies.”

According to Detective J. Torrez of the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Department and lead investigator on the case, Velichko was in an afternoon class with Jones Feb. 11, the last day he was seen alive. “He was last seen by his teacher Susie Jones when he was in her class at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday,” he said.

Jones said Wednesday, “I suspect that I was one of the last people to see him alive.” The jazz band director added that Velichko asked if he could leave class early that day.

Multnomah County Sheriff’s Department Deputy Paul McRedmond, the department’s public information officer, said Velichko’s cell phone and keys have not yet been located, so if he received a phone call during class prompting him to leave, they have not yet been able to investigate that possibility. “If that is so, we’ll find out who might have called and we’ll look into that. (His cell phone and keys) haven’t been located yet. It’s still an active investigation and the information is top secret.” Torrez said after Velichko left MHCC, he called his father, whom he lives with in Portland, and said “he was on his way home to get something to eat,” but he never made it home.

Torrez said two hikers located Velichko’s body the morning of Feb. 12. “Sheriff’s patrol was dispatched on Wednesday the 11th at around 10:30 a.m,” he said. The young man, who was found only in a pair of blue underwear, was later determined by the Multnomah County medical examiner to have died from hypothermia. According to weather.com, the low temperature in Troutdale, the gateway to the Columbia River Gorge, on the morning of Feb. 12 was 27 degrees and the winds were blowing about 10 to 15 miles per hour. Torrez believes there was about one to two inches of snow at the location where Velichko’s body was found, on a trailhead by Multnomah Falls near milepost 1.8 and close to Ecola Falls.

Torrez said none of Velichko’s clothing has been located despite a long search he supervised.

“I went back to the point where the hikers began seeing evidence of walking through snow in bare feet,” he said. He speculates that snow is covering some of his clothing items. While he was searching, Torrez began sensing what may have happened to Velichko.

“I was very hot and I had to take my jacket off. But then (I had to) put it back on because I began getting cold within minutes. And that was during the day. I can’t imagine what it would have been like at night,” he said. “The medical examiner mentioned that people experience euphoria (with hypothermia). They think they’re hot and they start taking their clothes off.” He believes this may have occurred in Velichko’s case. “It’s very treacherous this time of year. Sometimes you can’t tell where the trail begins and ends,” he said. Torrez thinks Velichko may have gotten off the trail somehow, found his way back to a different area and in the process, simply lost his way. “There have been several instances like that. It’s not uncommon.”

The detective also said the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Department is looking at the situation as an accidental case at the moment but “we do not rule out anything until the end.” McRedmond added that “there is nothing to tag it as a suspicious death (right now.)”

The toxicology report is still out and he said it will be a while before they are able to get the results back, thereby possibly eliminating or confirming the presence of drugs or alcohol in Velichko’s system at the time of death.

According to Torrez, there are no suspects yet. “We’re not targeting anybody, but that may change today or tomorrow,” he said. “We’re investigating everything and we’ll eliminate every angle that we can. We want to do everything we can to find out what happened to Rafael.”

Don Oliver, director of Mt. Hood Community College Public Safety, said Wednesday that his department is not involved in the “official” investigation. However, McRedmond said Thursday that a briefcase he believes may have belonged to Velichko was turned into the lost and found in the College Center, given to Public Safety last week and then turned over to the sheriff’s department. “The contents are part of the investigative piece. Once the investigation is over, the news will become public but it will be kept quiet until then,” he said. He added that some public safety officers will be interviewed in the near future.

McRedmond and Torrez said they are also looking to MHCC students to help solve the case. “If any students may have talked to him, (please call us,)” said McRedmond. “Sometimes the least detail gives closure to a case.”

Torrez added, “If you’re up there (at Multnomah Falls) and you find clothing that looks suspicious, you could help us a lot. Do not touch (them), mark the trail where you see them and call 9-1-1,” he said. “If you have any info about Rafael and why he was up there that day, let us know.”

Jones, possibly the last person to see the young man alive, recalls her short time as music instructor to Velichko. “We were just getting to know him,” she said.

  160. part after interviewing Alford. The team then talked to the FBI, which made an attempt to investigate, but not enough to satisfy Gannon (see “Sensenbrenner and the FBI,” page 76).

He may have a point. Milwaukee Magazine has interviewed police in Iowa and Minnesota and examined investigative documents in New Brighton, all of which paints a portrait of a gang called the Dealers of Death with links to Jeramy Alford.

The Alford brothers are from rural Iowa, near Cedar Rapids, which is 75 miles from East Dubuque. They’d also lived in the Minneapolis area, sometimes shuttling back and forth between states.

“They were a transient family who became well-known to us,” says Detective Bob Knoop of the Williamsburg, Iowa, police department. “They lived in subsidized housing and then in a trailer park. We had been watching them for illegal drug activity. Jeramy was one of those guys who couldn’t keep out of the way of the police.”

In 2005, Knoop says, Jeramy Alford was arrested for harboring runaways. Police discovered he’d branded one of them, using a hot razor to create the beginnings of a five-point star. “He told them he would take them to Minnesota and make them part of his gang,” Knoop says. Alford claimed his group was a political subdivision of a Chicago gang; another cop remembers the name as the “Dealers of Death.”

David Miller, who prosecuted Jeramy Alford for the murder of Douglas Miller, says Alford had tried to falsely blame that homicide on fellow gang members nicknamed Zmiley and Roach. As a result, the police questioned these two men.

Zmiley told police that the Dealers of Death had 300 members. “I was once a part of a little clique they had called the DOD,” the records quote Zmiley as saying. DOD stood for “Dealers of Death” and was based in Iowa, he said.

Zmiley said he was on antipsychotic medication, lived in a tent by the river, was a regular at Brothers bar in Minneapolis, and had engaged in violence in the past. He claimed Alford confessed to murdering a college student in an Indian costume. But Zmiley remembered the victim’s name as Andrew, not Chris Jenkins. However, according to David Miller, Alford once had a jail visit with a relative and spent his “precious 15 minutes” discussing a possible alibi for Halloween, the night Jenkins was killed.

“He [Alford] just said, ‘I killed this stupid looking dude and I threw him over the bridge,’ ” Zmiley told police.

Roach, who has a Minnesota criminal record, also told police he’d been a member of a gang he referred to as “DOD” and then called Dealers of Death. He said Jeramy Alford was the leader. (Zmiley told police someone else had taken over the gang after Alford was incarcerated.) Alford declined to be interviewed by Milwaukee Magazine. But when questioned by FBI agents, he claimed the DOD gang had murdered 40 young men.

Detective Gary Sykes of the New Brighton police department, who investigated the Miller homicide, is convinced the DOD gang robbed people for drug money, mostly in Minneapolis. “They hung out on the street all night and slept where they could during the day. Did Alford kill Chris Jenkins? It’s possible. Is he involved in other deaths? They are capable of almost anything, especially Jeramy. They have no compassion for human life. They were just plain weird.”

Head to the Internet, and it gets even weirder. Zmiley’s devil-worshipping Internet profile contains a flaming skull over a pentacle and reads, “I am me and there is no one like me, so back off before you get put down on the ground.” A friend writes on his site, “I also have a fascination with serial killers … the more u learn about history the better a person can learn from other peoples’ mistakes.”

Could Alford’s gang be the smiley face killers who murdered some of these young men? “I believe they were a part of it,” says Steve Jenkins, the father of Chris. “The FBI is not doing enough to confirm it.”

Local law enforcement authorities are more guarded. But like Sykes, they believe the DOD gang could be connected to the murder of young men. “It’s plausible,” says David Miller. Alford has already shown what he’s capable of. “He killed a defenseless man,” says Knoop, the Iowa cop. But Knoop adds that Alford is an untrustworthy character who “likes to brag.” He wants the FBI to take a closer look.

  164. Materiaalista,

Good point about the toxicology tests. We don't know IF toxicology tests are always run or what drugs are looked for. Can anyone comment on this?

In my own reasearch, the reports are not always released to the press. And when they are, they are very general.

I do know that in some of the cases it was reported that GHB (Rohypnol) was not found. I know weed was found in a few cases. There are probably more, but perhaps the drug information was not released to the media at the request of the families.

  165. What I said about "circular argument" did not come off how I meant it online.

I'm not making an insult, only pointing out that until we do more digging, this is what it is. Boy in the Machine posted a good example of what I meant by this.

I CAN see why you would want to link Yellow Medicine to moonseed and yelloh. It is intriguing and maybe you could look into the other cases to see if they fit into it somehow. (Anonymous 12:49 had a good point--perhaps there are other connections that we don't know about yet!)

I'm just saying more work needs to be done to support the Yellow Theory so that each piece of the puzzle can stand on it's own. That's all. REALLY.

    ReplyDelete
  166. Another great pic of circular reasoning:

    http://importreason.files.wordpress.com/2007/04/circular.png

    Examples of circular reasoning:

    1.)A is true
2.)How dow we know A is true?
    3.)Because B is true.
4.)How do we know B is true?
    5.)Because A is true.
    6.)Repeat to infinity

Now, just as in the pic, circular reasoning can become so complex that people can't easily tell that it's circular reasoning.

    Here's an example:

    1.) A is true.
2.) How do we know A is true?
    3.) Because B is true.
4.) How do we know B is true?
    5.) Because C is true.
6.) How do we know C is true?
    7.) Because D is true.
8.) How do we know D is true?

    (continues until reaching Z)

    Because Z is true.
How do we know Z is true?
    Because A is true.
    Repeat to infinity
(See how it loops right back to the beginning there.)

When the conclusion is the start and finish of an argument it is almost always circular reasoning.

Circular reasoning can be so complex that people don't recognize it for such.

  175. Some volunteers searched the wooded areas immediately off the walking paths with metal detectors near St. Clair Ave. and Mississippi River Blvd. Volunteers were looking for Dan's iPhone or pieces of the phone with the detectors.

Today was also the community clean up along the same area. Many people were picking up trash and debris in the wooded areas near the river.

Please reread my comment above yours. Do you seriously think the police have no considered the suicide possibility?

The supposed last words have been called into question, but apparantly there was some cry for help. This also can be interpreted in a number of ways.

I'm not pushing the suicide possibility, just aknowledging it as being a possibility.

I really don't care. They have the evidence. They talked to the family and friends about him.

But I believed what Anna said because I saw her saying it on TV. Maybe I shouldn't believe anybody. But based on his call for help and what I know about people who want to kill themselves, it just didn't jive.

Suicide never occurred to me and I would be surprised if it was seriously considered by the investigators.

  182. My Teams Grafitti Conclusion.
    Is it Clue? - Possibly
It reads-YELL-OH(an attached Spiral to the H)
    Dan's Last Words were supposedly-
    "OHHH,,God,,,somebody help"

    Perhaps the yellow Graffiti reads-
    (DANs LAST WORD)???

    Dan "YELLED" - (YELL)
    "Ohhhh" - (OH)
    God/Goddess- (Swirly/Spiral)

    ???????-Makes Ya Think-????????

Although the Symbol(found at the yellow Graffiti's end) Is a Spiral/Swirl/Labyrith is an ancient symbol redolent with profound symbolic interpretations in many of different cultures. = Itz common in almost all with either a Goddess (Fertility), the moon, water, an Re-birth as well as involoution & evolution.

Now specifically THE LABYRINTH (if that is what it was made to resemble, at the end of the yellow "YELLOH" graffiti). THE LABYRINTH USUALLY REPRESENTS a MYSTERY which THE INITIATE can also DISCOVER by following itz path.

    -AN THAT MAKES SCAAAARY SENSE!

So whatever Dan's LAST WORDS really where, we can never be sure.
    But-
    If they where =
    "Ohhh,God somebody help"

THATZ WHAT THE YELLOW GRAFFITI AT THE WWI MONUMENT, IS SAYING.

    --------------------------
    Yelloh+Spiral=Dan Zamlens LAST WORDS...
    (see above fro explanation)

AN THATZ ARE CONCLUSION AS OF NOW...

Yahweh means God. Sometimes translated to mean falling. It is often not spelled all the way out when written.

    Some facts:

    1. I have found graffiti in the area where yellow is spelled yello, same paint and hand writing

    2. There is a statistically significant number of college aged males missing and ending up in water (rivers, lakes) even when drowning rates, missing young females is looked at...

    3. There is something more to this
than accidents.(usually men go on lakes in winter for recreation)

    4. The question is what is the link and how are they linked, which boys are included and which are not included?

I read each case last night and was surprised by the number of boys having contact with the police prior to going missing snd ending up in water. I'm sure this has been obvious to many people and I'd like to know more thoughts.
I'll share mine and please play devil's advocate if you wish because the more we are challenged the more we might get some where and see our own lack of reasoning.

    Police link to cases:

    1. It is a cop
    2. It is 2 cops that are brothers (Brother's Bar)
3.Perp. uses a police scanner to aide in his locating new victim
4.It is some one who despises police so has implicated them to some degree by police being involved prior to them going missing
    5. It is a security person (goes under radar)
    6. An impersonator of security/police
    7. 3,4 and 5

    Any other ideas?

“We were just getting to know him,” she said.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Multnomah_Falls

Multnomah Falls is a waterfall on the Oregon side of the Columbia River Gorge, located east of Troutdale, between Corbett and Dodson, along the Historic Columbia River Highway.

There is a Native American legend that explains the origins of the falls. In this legend, a tribe was infected with a deadly disease and was in danger of dying.[citation needed] The daughter of the chief went to the top of a cliff and prayed to the Great Spirit to find how she could stop the epidemic. She was told that to stop the epidemic, she would have to throw herself off the cliff and sacrifice herself. She did this and died. The next day, the chief found his daughter's body at the bottom of the cliff. He wept bitterly and cried out to the Great Spirit to give him a sign if this sacrifice was not in vain. At that moment, water began to fall from the top of the cliff, forming Multnomah Falls. The legend also says that under the right conditions, you can see the daughter's face in the waterfall.

Multnomah County (pronounced /məltˈnoʊmə/) is one of 36 counties in the U.S. state of Oregon. Though smallest in area, it is the most populous[1] as its county seat, Portland, is the state's largest city. In 2006, the county's population was 681,454.[2] The county was likely named after Native American people first recorded in the journals of the Lewis and Clark Expedition, Mulknomans, who lived in a village on the east side of present-day Sauvie Island. (An alternative theory holds that Multnomah is a corruption of nematlnomaq, meaning down river.)

Longest place nameEmbarrassed US officials have been forced to admit that they have been spelling Lake Chargoggagoggmanchauggagoggchaubunagungamaugg wrongly for years.

The typos in the country's longest place name were revealed by local newspaper, the Worcester Telegram & Gazette, which has been covering the misspelling scandal since 2003.

Resolving the issue involved large amounts of research into the two dozen spelling variants for the lake, in Webster, Massachusetts, reports Metro.

Eventually, it was determined that the 45-letter Chargoggagoggmanchauggagoggchaubunagungamaugg was the correct spelling, and that the signs saying 'Lake Chargoggagoggmanchaoggagoggchaubunaguhgamaugg' were wrong, inserting an 'o' for a 'u' at position 20, and an 'h' for an 'n' at position 38.

The research also found that the 49-letter variant, Chargoggagoggmanchauggauggagoggchaubunagungamaugg, was the second most common version.

The local Chamber of Commerce will now attempt to find out who painted the signs in the first place, and get them to correct them.

Lake Chargoggagoggmanchauggagoggchaubunagungamaugg is commonly referred to as Webster Lake by locals for obvious reasons.
