09/12/04: Jesse Miller, 21, Eau Claire, WI

Witnesses spotted 21-year old Jesse Miller on the shoreline beneath the Lake Street bridge at 3:26 a.m. They flagged down a police car and told officers the man's intentions were unclear. Police began to question him, and upon doing so, Miller began moving further into the river until they lost sight of him. According to the report, Miller told police, "You have no idea what's going on" before he moved further into the water. There is no evidence the man was under the influence of alcohol or that it was an act of suicide, said Tim Golden, detective sergeant of the Eau Claire Police Department.

Police later determined that Miller had been out with his friends on Water Street prior to the incident. Volunteers searched the shoreline and found Miller's clothing, which consisted of socks, shoes, boxer shorts, pants and a shirt.

Jesse's body was found Sept. 12, 2004 in the Chippewa River. He had a blood-alcohol content of 0.22, which is above the 0.08 legal driving limit in Wisconsin.

  1. Definately need a follow-up to this case, if possible. This is very strange.

Based on no further information, I would be skeptical of both the police's testimony as well as the witnesses, though more so of the witnesses at this point. Something just isn't right here.

I really need to know if the witnesses stuck around and were with the police as they approached him. If so his actions might have been those of avoiding the witnesses. There's just too little info to go on though.

  2. Also, should point out that this might be another clue pointing to a cop or cop impersonator.

I should stress that many young individuals dislike police officers, especially if they have had bad experiences with them in the past. So it's normal for a young guy to not trust an officer.

  3. There's probably more to this story...I don't understand it at all...the information basically says that in the police report they just watched (and allowed) Jesse to just go further into the river without calling for help or anything. It doesn't make sense.

  4. My thoughts are with Jesse's family and friends at this difficult time of year.
