Kevin Alan Fletcher, 36, was last seen on Friday February 29, 2008 around 11:30 p.m. in Surrey, B.C. He left a residence there, and it was felt he was heading to his residence in Maple Ridge, B.C., but he has failed to show up.
Fletcher is described as a white male, 5'10" tall, weighing 200 pounds (heavy build), has short brown hair, and blue eyes. He was wearing a white shirt, which has vertical blue and green stripes; blue jeans; a black baseball hat with ‘DINO’ printed on it; a black leather jacket with ‘Kevin Fletcher’ written on one sleeve, and the logo of a drilling machine and ‘Yellowknife’ printed on the back of the jacket; and light brown suede shoes. Fletcher was driving his black 1990 Oldsmobile Cutlas, 4 door, British Columbia Licence plate# 466 AVX.

Camilo Slusher, 30, was reported missing on January 31, 2008 by a friend in the Williams Lake area of British Columbia.
Slusher, an American citizen, left Williams Lake on January 24, 2008, to return to the USA. On January 29, he contacted his friend in Williams Lake to say he was on his way back home. Nothing further has been heard from Slusher since and his family is very worried about him, as the last time they talked to him was in June 2007.
Slusher is described as being 5'7" tall and approximately 210 pounds with a stocky build. He is of Italian nationality with light skin color, short brown hair, and a goatee with thin lines along his chin. He has a tattoo of a flame on his neck that forms a cross and a native design on his right upper arm.

Geoffrey Meisner, 33, was last seen by his wife, when he was dropped of at his vehicle that was parked at the Orchard Park Mall in Kelowna, British Columbia, on November 27, 2009. Meisner, a fighter and promoter of mixed martial arts, was scheduled to attend an event in Vernon, but everyone was surprised when he didn't show up.
Information suggests that Meisner left the parking lot in his white 2010 Ford F350 pickup and headed towards Dilworth Drive. Shortly thereafter, his vehicle arrived at the Starbucks at Hwy 97 and Leathead Rd. His vehicle was discovered there at 8:30 p.m. that evening. Meisner is still missing. It is not known where Geoffrey, a devoted father of four daughters ages 5 to 11, could have gone.
Meisner's family has told the media that his disappearance is very out of character; he always stays in close contact with his family. According to a Facebook page, they are fearful that Meisner may have met with foul play, or that he possibly suffered a delayed reaction from a recent martial arts event in which he received several blows to the head. They worry that Meisner could be on the streets and confused. They had just moved into a new home a few weeks prior to his disappearance.
Meisner is described as Caucasian, 6' 1" tall, 275 lbs,with a large muscular build. He is bald, has brown eyes and a brown goatee. He was last seen wearing blue jeans, a white T-shirt and a brown hoodie.Police are asking anyone who may have seen Meisner or his truck, to call the Kelowna RCMP at (250) 762-3300, or Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

Kyle MacDonald is missing.
Kyle MacDonald, 24, was last seen on August 30, 2007 when he was dropped off by his girlfriend to take a commuter flight from the Inner Harbor in Victoria. He planned to join others for a weekend fishing trip in Vancouver.
Police say Macdonald boarded the 11:20 a.m. Harbour Air flight. He was carrying a Calvin Klein duffel bag, tackle box, small fishing rod, wearing shorts, a T-shirt and 'flip-flop' sandals.
MacDonald failed to return from the trip and has not been heard from since. His cellphone, credit cards or bank account has not been used.
Friends and family are at a loss as to what happened to the avid outdoorsman. They say he did not have a history of mental illness and to their knowledge did not have an argument or traumatic experience that might have made him vanish.
His mother, Anita Jamieson, told The Province, "He's very shy, but he was a loner. He kept to himself. He had a lot of friends, but a lot of times he went on his own looking for deer," Jamieson said. She also said that while her son would often go into the wilderness for several days at a time without giving his exact whereabouts, he would never go longer than a few days without contacting her.
Numerous inquiries have been conducted to date with no leads as to MacDonald’s whereabouts, who he met, or where or what became of him. Foul play cannot be ruled out at this time.
At the time of his disappearance, MacDonald lived in Shawnigan Lake where he was a fishing and hunting guide. The Province reported that MacDonald's disappearance is unusual because he left behind assets, including a house he owned.
Vancouver Island Integrated Major Crime unit is assisting the Shawnigan Lake RCMP in this investigation.

"In 1987, 15-year-old Geoff Dowding told his dad that he planned to hitchhike from their home in Maidstone to B.C. to visit family at Williams Lake. Geoff's birth mother had passed away when he was young, and there was often friction between him and his new stepmother. Chris knew his son had the same independent, free-spirited qualities as his old man, and he reluctantly agreed to allow his son to set out on his own, a decision he would come to regret for the rest of his life. Chris could never had predicted that when he dropped his son off by the highway that summer day, he would be saying his final farewell.On September 22, 1987, a couple walking a dog found human remains in the heavily wooded Knox Mountain Park in Kelowna, British Columbia, Canada. Kelowna police worked up dental charts and a fingerprint analysis, but were unable to get a positive identification.
'I made the sad mistake of letting him go like I did. I hitchhiked across Canada in my early years, and I figured that's what he was doing, Chris said. 'He was like his dad, kind of a young hippie at heart. Good attitude and really easy going.'
Geoff made it to Williams Lake, and after a brief stay, left for the Okanagan. Months passed, and although he often wondered, Chris assumed Geoff had simply moved on with his life, and never looked back so he never filed a missing persons report. But he always half-expected the phone to ring one day."
According to Porchlight Canada:
The body was badly decomposed and it is believed that it had been there, for approximately two to six months. The human remains were subsequently recovered by police investigators and an autopsy was performed. It was determined that the body was that of a caucasian male, between the ages of 16 and 20 years, with medium length light brown hair. The height of the deceased is estimated to be between 179cm and 180 cm. A unique characteristic of note is the deviation of the nasal septum towards the left (slight bend in the nose). The deceased was in good dental health and dental charts are available.Four years passed and when Chris Dowding still hadn't had any contact with his son, he recruited the help of Maidstone and Onion Lake RCMP in trying to locate him. For years, no one could find so much as a trace.
Then in 2000, the police published a facial reconstruction of the body, which eventually led to an ID by local police. In 2002, it was confirmed through DNA testing that the remains belonged to Geoffrey John Dowding.
The circumstances surrounding his death are suspicious.
"I wake up every morning and see my son's picture, and I wonder who the hell would do that to a 15-year-old kid," Chris Dowding told the Merdian Booster. "Somebody's got to live with it and somebody's got to pay for it."

Between 11 and 11:30 p.m. on Jan. 17, 2008, Calgary resident and bartender Bradley Worobeck, 27, finished his night shift at the Palomino Smokehouse at 109 7 Ave. S.W. in downtown Calgary, Alberta, Canada. A half hour later, he called his mother, Sandy, from the King Henry VIII Pub just two blocks away (at 221 8 Ave. S.W.) to say he was heading home to sleep. Brad usually traveled by Calgary Transit. Friends say he had lost his wallet a week earlier, so he borrowed $20 and was planning to take the C-Train to his Deer Run home. He never showed up.

Martin Balfour, 26, was reported missing to the police on December 30, 2001, two days after he was last seen by his roommate. He was living in an apartment in the 12000 block of Harris Road, and he left his home sometime before 9:00 a.m. December 28, 2001. His car, a blue 1983 Toyota Supra, was found parked by police on December 31st, 2001, but there has not been any sign of Balfour.
Sgt. Pat Walsh of the Ridge Meadows RCMP detachment said that after two days of searching the bush along the Fraser River with 30 people, dogs and helicopters, he concluded there was little hope of finding Balfour in the immediate area.
Many people have been interviewed by police since his mysterious disappearance. In the spring and summer of 1989, Horvath-Allan was backpacking his way west across Canada. He had stopped in Ontario in mid-March 1989, Saskatchewan at the end of March, then reached Kelowna, British Columbia in early May. Once in Kelowna, he registered at various employment agencies and then accepted a job at the Flintstones Bedrock City Amusement Park. In mid-May, he registered at the Tiny Town Tent and Trailer Park on Lakeshore Avenue. At the time of his disappearance, Horvath-Allan was living in a tent at the Tiny Town campground and keeping in touch with his family via fax. The last confirmed sighting of Horvath-Allan was on May 26 when he cashed his paycheck at the Orchard Bank in Kelowna. An unconfirmed sighting also places him at The Live Wire Nightclub in Kelowna in August. If valid, it was the last time he was seen.
Horvath-Allan was reported missing after he failed to finalize plans to meet up with his mother in Hong Kong, where they planned to celebrate his 21st birthday and his mother's 40th birthday. All of his personal possessions, including his tent, clothing, sleeping bag, shaving kit, rosary, and photographs, were located at Tiny Town Trailer Park after he was reported missing. Rumors suggest he was murdered at or near the trailer park. It has also been speculated that Charles Horvath-Allan's body is in Okanagan Lake. His body has not been recovered, and no charges have been laid.
Horvath-Allan's case has been featured on Unsolved Mysteries, and his case has been featured on numerous Web sites, including I Am Missing, Help Find the Missing, and You Tube.
Denise Allan, who resides in England, makes regular trips to Kelowna to make public appeals to find her son and some justice. She has a memorial Web site dedicated to her son, and has written this letter to her son's killer.
Charles' grandmother, Edith Thorpe, had prepared a personal plea to the public regarding her grandson, but sadly, died suddenly of natural causes on Sunday, Jan 8, 2006. Her funeral service was held on January 20 in Cambridge. A place has been prepared for Charles to be laid to rest with his Nana when his remains are recovered, and a memorial headstone was place on his grave during the service. The Horvath-Allan family has also released her emotional plea to the public:
In September 1988, my grandson, Charles, came to visit me in Cambridge, England, before setting off on his long journey to Canada. As we waved Goodbye to one another at the bus stop, I feared that I would never see my grandson again, the tears poured from my eyes. Another Christmas has come and gone without our family knowing the fate of my only Grandson, Charles. Soon I shall be 80 years old. If you know who took Charles from our lives or if you know where his body is located, please find the courage to come forward. For 16 years, I have helplessly watched the health of my daughter, Denise Allan, deteriorate as she drags herself across Canada and the world in hopes of finding fate her only child. Whomever took Charles from our lives, I beg you to come forward and tell us where we can find him. Peace desperately needs to be brought to our lives.

Christopher Faulkner, 37, was last seen on the evening of March 9th, 2010, at the Shelter Island Marina in Richmond, BC, Canada, where he resides. No further details are known about the case.
Christopher is described as 6'3" tall with a slim/muscular build. He has dark brown hair usually worn in a pony tail and he has green eyes. He was last seen wearing jeans, a dark jacket and black work boots. He is known to use a gray mountain bike, unknown make and model, as his main source of transportation.
Christopher does not have any physical or mental health issues nor does he have a criminal history. He has never gone missing before and his family and police are concerned about his whereabouts.

Zeyu Qu, an 18-year old English Language student from China was last seen on August 9, 2009 at his residence located in the 6600 block of Broadway in Burnaby. Qu left a message that he would be back in a couple of days, but has not been heard from.
He apparently took some of his belongings with him and may have placed these items in either a yellow carry-on type suitcase or a large blue backpack.
Qu had been in Canada taking an English course for several weeks. He is not known to have anything to do with either alcohol or drugs and has no known medical conditions. He is described as a happy student who was involved in all of the provided student activities until the last few days prior to his disappearance when he became more quiet in nature.
Burnaby RCMP and the Family have been attempting to locate Qu with no success.

At 9 p.m. on Monday, January 9, 2006, Michael Bosma, left on foot from a care home located on Bernard Avenue in Kelowna, British Columbia. He was supposed to return by 11 p.m. to take his medications. Bosma failed to return.
Bosma had been hospitalized shortly before his disappearance and had been staying at a local transition house.
He was seen at approximately midnight on Jan. 9 when he used his ATM bank card at the Esso service station at the corner of Harvey Avenue and Pandosy. He was seen again sometime on Tuesday, Jan. 10 in Jammer's Cold Beer and Liquor Store on Highway 97 where he used a debit card. There has not been any information concerning Bosma's disappearance since that time.

About Michael Bosma
Michael Bosma was born in Penticton, BC, on January 17, 1980. He spent his early years growing up in Summerland where he would spend hours riding his bike on the road and in the orchard. He loved to help his grandfather, who owned a sheep farm, bottle-feed orphaned lambs, and once even brought a lamb to school for show and tell.
The family later moved to an old Victorian house in Penticton, where Michael shared a room with his older brother, Dan. Mike loved reading comic books and playing with his Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. And both boys, naturally, loved to tease their little sister, Sarah. When he was older, Mike followed his brother's lead and got a paper route. He and his brother loved to buy things from the mall with their own money. Michael was a typical boy, leading a typical life.
But at the age of 15, Mike's life began to spiral out of control.
Mike seemed to have his days and nights mixed up. We would wake in the middle of the night to him standing at the foot of our bed watching us. Then he would demand a cigarette from John. A few times I caught him sitting on the couch watching a TV that was not on. Mike explained that he was thinking. For Christmas that year Mike asked for a guitar. He loved his guitar and would play it for hours. He said he didn't need any books cause he already knew! He would be in his room for hours on end playing his guitar as hard as he could. We had also given him a Simpson Calendar, which he was thrilled with, as he loved the Simpsons.
I started to notice that he had duck tape in his room on many different things. Sometimes there were pieces of paper attached to it. Mike told me and a friend that the Simpson Calendar was talking to him. He was so convincing that I sat on his bed looking at the calender waiting for something. Eventually I gave up and then Mike said that as soon as I left the room Marge started talking. He was laughing about it so at this point I was just happy that he was happy. Mike would spend hours in his room drawing. He drew a little guitar and taped it to the calendar for Bart. I know this sounds so bizarre but I was happy that he wasn't smashing walls and going out of control.

At the age of 19, Michael as diagnosed with schizophrenia, which he continued to struggle with up until his disappearance.
He was "a very good person with a very bad disease," says his mother, Wendy.
He was last seen at 9 p.m., on January 9, 2006, when he left his group home to go out for a walk. He was due back at 11 p.m. for his medication, but never showed up. His parents were not notified until 9 a.m., the next morning.
Michael's mother, Wendy Bosma, is currently working on a book, Bird in a Nest, about her son's life and the subsequent nightmare the family has endured since his disappearance. She has also has started a blog, http://wenswritings.wordpress.com/author/wenswritings, dedicated to raising awareness for missing people and has posted many of her personal stories and thoughts there.

Owen Rooney, 24, an electrician from Sydney, Australia, was on a working holiday at the Big White ski resort in Kelowna, British Columbia with his sisters Bree and Kelly. When the season was over, Owen decided to stay in the area for the summer and work at a local restaurant while his sisters headed to Vancouver.
Rooney had been to the Shambhala Music Festival in Salmo, B.C. where, according to RCMP Corporal Dan Moskaluk, he ingested psilocybin mushrooms. "It was noted by his friends that this caused Owen a certain degree of paranoia and that he appeared a little confused," said Moskaluk. "He did seek medical attention at the medical tent during that festival."
While hitchhiking the 248 miles (400 km) back to Kelowna after the festival on August 13, Rooney trespassed on a Christina Lake property, repeatedly insisting that his friends were on the property. The property owner removed Rooney by force, and in the ensuing altercation, Rooney was struck in the face. (Kelowna News, 11/1/10).
It appears to have been the first time that Rooney had ever been in a fight, but the young man was badly beaten and may have become confused.
A short time later, Rooney was picked up in Christina Lake by a police officer who received a call about someone behaving oddly. The officer spotted Rooney wandering along Highway 3 with two black eyes and bleeding from his ears. He offered to take him to the hospital. When Rooney declined, the officer dropped him off at the Grand Forks bus depot, and Rooney purchased a ticket back to Kelowna. Rooney boarded the bus; he got off the bus a short time later and asked someone for directions to the hospital.
He left the bus station and did make it to Grand Forks Boundary Hospital in Grand Forks, B.C., where he was treated and spent the night, but he disappeared the following evening before he was formally discharged from the hospital.
Rooney was last seen around 8 p.m. on Oct. 14, sitting at a picnic table on the west side of the hospital. He left without his backpack which contained clothing and his cell phone. Discrepancies exist about whether Rooney's wallet was in the backpack.
"We don't know what has happened to him," Bree told the Daily Telegraph. "We're just appealing to anyone who has seen Owen or been in contact with him to get in touch with us."
The Search for Owen Rooney
Rooney's passport was left behind in his apartment in Kelowna. His bank accounts, credit cards, and Facebook page have not been accessed since he was last seen, and he has not picked up his paycheck.
Ground searches have yielded no clues.
His family has been handing out missing person leaflets and putting up posters between Grand Forks and Kelowna. They have also started a blog, http://www.find-owen.com/. At least three Facebook sites are also devoted to Owen Rooney's disappearance, and videos have been posted on You Tube, including a re-enactment video by the police.
On Nov. 26, CTV.ca reported that police on Vancouver Island had received four credible sightings of Rooney in the past month:
In three cases, the man was trying to sell homemade dream catchers door-to-door, and was accompanied by other people.
The first sighting happened in Nanaimo on Nov. 5., when a woman reported seeing said Rooney selling the homemade crafts with a man with dreadlocks and a Jamaican accent.
Four days later, Saanich police received a report of a man matching Owen's description.
The next day, a business owner in Parksville told police he sold her a dream catcher at her office.
Nanaimo RCMP spokesperson Sgt. Gary O'Brien said they've assigned a plainclothes unit to investigate, starting with checking cheap hotels and hostels in the area.
"A woman who insists she saw him said he looks in good health, he's polite, looks like he's staying somewhere inside. If he sells one of these crafts he could have money for a day or two, and the hostels are cheap."
Adeline Setterfield said Rooney came into her office in October trying to hawk his wares. ‘When I saw his face it was like ‘bingo' – and he had an Australian accent," she told ctvbc.ca from her downtown Nanaimo office.
Setterfield said Rooney looked scruffy and needed a haircut, but otherwise seemed okay. She said the man told her he was travelling for "a cultural experience" and trying to save money.
Given the head injury Rooney suffered, it is possible that he may not know who he is.

According to the Toronto Sun, there were upward of 200 patrons at the now-defunct bar celebrating that night. The bar rested on an open patch of land "that was almost a pasture back then." It is now filled with residential housing.
Mercon phoned his mother from the pay phone outside the bar and asked her to pick him up at a nearby corner. She had driven him there earlier in the evening so he could celebrate with colleagues who had just finished a federal job training program. He and his mother were close and she didn't mind his calling for a lift.
Mercon's mother drove to the prearranged street corner to pick up her son. She found it empty. In fact, no one was in sight.

When Norma Mercon last saw her son, he was wearing a costume consisting of Army fatigues, brown work boots, a camouflage Army-style rain poncho that his brother, Alexander, had loaned him, a green wool hat, and a long black hippie-style wig. Only his poncho has ever turned up. It was found under the table where Mercon had been sitting.
"He was still a boy," Alexander, told the Toronto Sun. "He was a house boy, not a street boy. Our family was close. The police response? He's over 18. He's a grown man. Wait it out. And, as a result, it was three days before a detective knocked at our door."
According to the Sun:
"When Mercon went missing, it wasn't the best time for the York regional police. The OPP was probing the comings and goings of York Chief Bryan Cousineau, who would be bounced a year later for a breach of trust conviction and replaced by future Toronto Police Chief Julian Fantino."
'It wasn't until Fantino arrived that anyone really cared about what happened to my son," said Norma Mercon, indicating that a York detective named Richard McVeity was the one who finally put his soul into it.'
'I put a ton of time into it,' says McVeity.
'When a man calls his mother to pick him up and then is not there, then something is amiss. Besides, I didn't take Pierre as the type of person who would put his mother through all that.'
'But so much time had passed by then.'"
Investigators did determine that Mercon had no enemies, no heavy drug-use background, no debts and no reported threats against him. His bank account, from which he used to withdraw $20 nearly every day, remained opened, but untouched. Mercon wasn't one to hang with the wrong crowd, and he had no reason to disappear on his own.
Foul play is strongly suspected in the case.
But, according to the Tandem News, "without a smoking gun, without a body, without witnesses or any material evidence, the trail for Mercon soon grew cold."
The case ended up on the desk of York Regional police Detective Tim Gore, the region's lone cold case investigator since March 2002. Gore has been a police officer for 26 years.
"It seems like he just fell off the face of the Earth," Det. Gore told the paper. "Because he doesn't have a history of running away, because his bank accounts haven't been touched, we began investigating the missing persons report right away."
He added, "There are cases when the victim is just in the wrong place at the wrong time. Sometimes there just isn't a motive to be found," says Det. Gore. "In this case when he calls his mom and asks her to pick him up and he's not at the intersection where he's supposed to be, it leads us to believe that there is probably foul play involved."
As of July 2005, Gore had 38 cold homicides and disappearances to investigate; and he was hoping to crack his first case. "I'd like to be able to phone the victims family and tell them I have good news, that justice will be served," he told the paper. "Closure is important, even if it simply means finding a body that the family can bury," he said.

11/09/09: Tyler Walton, 26, Williams Lake, Canada
On the day he disappeared, he made a deposit at the bank, then was seen at a store before heading to a spiritual gathering around 7 p.m. in Williams Lake, British Columbia. It was the last time he was seen.
His left behind his wallet and ID at home, along with his bicycle, vehicle (bought a few days before), and laptop (which he usually carried with him). He also did not take a jacket, toothbrush, clothes or other personal belongings.
While Tyler does have friends all over and loves to travel, he is not the type to leave without telling anyone where he is going. His disappearance is considered very uncharacteristic. Police have conducted extensive interviews with everyone he knows and have checked his financial/medical/phone and travel records.
A helicopter and numerous ground searches of the forested area around Williams Lake yielded no results, and after all this time and numerous inquiries by investigators, there are still no solid leads to explain why he disappeared or where he could be. A friend told the Vancouver Observer, “he just disappeared, like he got plucked off the face of the earth.”
In 2015, Corp. Jason Pole of the Williams Lake RCMP general investigation section told BC Local News that he does not believe that Walton took his own life or intentionally left Williams Lake. Pole told the paper that while Walton was involved with the drug trade, police don't have any direct evidence to suggest his disappearance is related to a drug dispute. Pole also points out that Walton was known to take spontaneous hikes, "and the possibility is there that he’s gone hiking and succumbed to an injury or something out there.”

Friends say that Tyler is "a bright, articulate young man who loves to learn." He treasures books, loves to discuss things at a deeper level than most, and is always trying to improve his mind. Tyler's friends and family also say that he is an affectionate young man, who is always the first to initiate "amazing hugs" to those he cares about, and always the last to let go. "Tyler believed that people were innately good and caring toward one another, " they said. "He shared generously and called a wide variety of people his friends.”
Tyler’s mom, Chantal Desruisseaux, dad, Ken Walton (who passed away of cancer in 2018) and Tyler’s girlfriend of six years, Leah, have been desperate to find some answers to the tragedy that has turned their lives upside down.
“Any answer at this time would help us,” Leahtold the Williams Lake Tribune. “It would help in the healing process to have an answer. We’re still hoping he’s out there somewhere. Tyler is such an amazing person, he’s just meant to keep going.”

04/29/07: Jeffrey Surtel, Mission, BC, Canada
On April 29, 2007, 17-year old Jeffrey Surtel disappeared after leaving his family's home in Mission, British Columbia, sometime between midnight and 5 a.m. He was last seen by neighbors who spotted him riding off on his distinctive blue CCM mountain bike with yellow front forks.
Jeffrey's parents, Gary and Dawn, still look into the face of every kid on a bike or wearing a hoodie similar to what Jeff had been wearing, hoping to find their son. They long to find their son--and for some answers.
In a press conference at Matsqui State Park in August 2009, Gary Surtel told the media, "We're asking anyone who saw his bike at the [Mission] bridge to contact us. We just want to know where the bike was found, because that will determine where to start looking for Jeff."

11/3/08: Sahil Sharma, 20, Surrey, BC, CAN
At the time of his disappearance, Sharma was a second-year international student from India attending with a focus on Information Technology. He was student in good standing, and with his tuition already paid and having settled in with his uncle and extended family, everything was in place for a positive future.

The Missing Persons Unit at the Surrey Detachment has made a multitude of inquiries in hopes of locating Sharma. They have scoured his e-mail, bank accounts, medical and travel records, as well as interviewed family and friends. They have found no indication of drug or alcohol abuse or any medical issues, and have not found any clues to help locate him.
Sharma's parents flew to Canada and met with police investigators, and have made themselves readily available to meet with the media. His uncle is also willing to speak with the media.
His friends have also set up a Facebook page.

07/25/06: Patrick Ratto, 43, Burnaby, BC, Canada
Ratto withdrew $60 from the ATM sometime on July 25. According to his wife, Debra Dorey, he would not have been carrying much more money on him than that, and none of his credit cards have been used since he disappeared. Because of this, his wife believes he must have only been planning to make a quick stop somewhere, perhaps hopping on a ferry.
Ratto’s disappearance is described as being totally out of character. According to Dorey, "I knew it was bad right from the start,” she said. “I know Patrick. We’ve been married for 13 years and I’ve lived with him for 14. He’s never done anything like this before. He left work that day at 1:30 p.m. and that’s it. 07/20/07: Asim Chaudhry, 24, Burnaby, BC, Canada
Asim had graduated from SFU and enrolled in a statistics course after graduation. He often studied in the library and liked to work out in the gym at the school. Asim was last seen by his brother at approximately 5 p.m. as he was headed out the door. When his brother asked where he was going, Asim reported that he was headed to SFU to study. His brother noticed his bag seemed to be packed extra full with clothes. Asim's textbook was left on the dining room table.
Later investigation by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police revealed that Asim was last seen by a friend at around 10 p.m. when he was dropped off at the Skytrain Station at Production Way.
Asim had been visiting with the friend at his home in New Westminster. The friend's wife was away and he was watching their children. At Asim's suggestion, they took the kids out to the McDonald's at Brentwood Town Centre for an ice cream. They men apparently spent some time catching up, then parted ways at the Production Way SkyTrain station around 10 p.m., the friend going home with his children and Asim saying he was off to SFU. Asim told the friend that he was going up to campus to study for the upcoming exam.
Asim hasn't been seen since that time.
Simon Fraser University Security have searched the buildings on campus to no avail.
Chaudhry's mother, Mansura, has acknowledged that Asim may have been having some difficulties around the time he disappeared. Mansura and her husband were going through a separation, and Asim, who had graduated from Simon Fraser in 2007 with a bachelor's degree in political science, had also not found work and a teaching assignment in Korea did not pan out. In a press conference, she reported that Asim had seemed "very, very stressed out or depressed" in the months before he disappeared and that he was reading "tons and tons of books," including The Pessimist's Handbook, which he had borrowed from the library. His mother asked him about it, but he said it was only reading material.
But then in the last two to three months before his disappearance, his behavior had changed and things appeared more positive. Asim began willingly going places with his mother and seemed happy. On the day he disappeared, he also wrote a short e-mail--the last e-mail Asim is known to have sent--to a good friend who was teaching in Japan, saying he appreciated the friend's friendship and support and looked up to him as a mentor.
The plans he had made that night were also with an old friend with whom he had been out of touch with for years. The two men had met up by chance a few weeks before Asim went missing, and the friend invited him over to his home in New Westminster to watch a movie.
Asim has not been seen since he boarded the SkyTrain to SFU. He has not used his cellphone, including to return the numerous messages left by his family and friends, accessed any bank account, or retrieved any of the items he stored at the gym for working out.
The RCMP continues to investigate the disappearance.
Our prayers go out to Asim's family and friends at this very painful anniversary. We truly hope that Asim is found safe!

07/15/08: Guowen Weng, 16, Vancouver, BC, Canada
Weng, who arrived in Vancouver at 2:30 p.m. in preparation for a two-week long summer course, went for a walk around 8:30 p.m., taking his belongings and cell phone with him. He never returned.
Guowen Weng is described as about 5'3" tall, 100 pounds, with black, spiky hair. According to police, Weng speaks no English.
In September, CBS News reported that Weng was the fourth student to disappear from the BCC Academy of English school within days of each other in July. The three other students — a boy, 19, and two girls, 16 and 17— were all in the same class and went missing five days after Weng.
According to CBS News, "The last record police have of Guowen cellphone being used is in Ottawa. Vancouver police Const. Tim Fanning said police tried to contact their families in China but they either weren't helpful or didn't return their calls."
Police now believe they may have used the summer language program as an excuse to get into Canada. All four students were admitted to the country on six-month study visas.
All four cases have now been handed over to the Canada Border Services Agency, Fanning said.
