Matthew was last seen at a party in McConnell, Illinois on October 31, 2003. He failed to return home after the party. Friends stated that Matthew got out of the car and ran after police showed up at the party. After the deputies left, Matthew didn't come out. His friends looked for him but couldn't find him. Matthew's body was found about noon in the Pecatonica River, about one-quarter mile north of the site of a party 12 days after where he was last seen.
