Charles Blatz, a 28-year old military veteran from Kiel, WI, had come to La Crosse, WI for the annual OktoberFest celebration (very hip with the La Crosse college crowd). Friends last saw Blatz alive around midnight at Sneakers, a popular downtown bar in the Pearl and Third area known for its drink specials. Blatz's body was found five days later in the Mississippi River.
Recovery
On October 3, 1997, Blatz's badly mutilated body was pulled from the main channel of the Mississippi River after a fisherman reported seeing a body floating face down not far from the Seventh Street landing. He was missing one sock and one of his black sneakers, his skull was fractured and he was missing an arm. An autopsy was performed by the Milwaukee County medical examiner. According to the medical examiner's report, since there was no tissue hemorrhaging to suggest trama while he was alive, the injuries most likely occurred after Blatz was dead. Police believe his body was struck by a barge.

This does not mae sense how could his arm come off and the head injuries all happen within five days from natural causes like decompsoing etc

hmmm If a victim is found with no signs of trauma then LE uses that to make it sound like a drunken accident.They are drunk but yet there is no clues that the victim fell down and hurt himself even though he was to drunk to get out of the water.So then the argument becomes they wanted to go in the water.HUH?young men headed towards the water during cold months to coll themselves down?If they are found with injuries then they got hit by a barge.Even Barney Fife would have figured it out by now.This is murder.The people at the FBI must be retards
Most sites give the date as Sept 22. So if he went out the 22nd ,he may have died the 23rd
In a PowerPoint presentation given by the police to the citizens of La Crosse, the police gave the date of disappearance as 9/27. The date was also reported in the paper as 9/28, which still makes sense because he was last seen at around midnight. So the date of 9/27 or 9/28 could be accurate. The injuries to the body are believed to have come from being hit by a barge.
